Auto Rename app provides assistance finding and renaming files/folders containing invalid character(s) in their name; see OneDrive and SharePoint restrictions and limitation article. For the user convenience, an archive option and log file are available to save changes made.
OneDrive reserves the use of characters that have special meaning on filename. For example, if a file or folder you are trying to upload to OneDrive contains an invalid character(s), it will fail to upload to Microsoft cloud servers; The sync process fails to continue. Alternatively, one can manually find and rename files or folders with invalid character on each item before syncing to OneDrive and/or SharePoint.
In addition, app provides option to count characters in the entire decoded file pat including the file name. File path cannot contain more than 400 characters for OneDrive. For example, the length of the OneDrive root folder plus the relative path of the file cannot be more then 520 characters.
